Tartan, Fishtails and Crispy Duck

I didn't manage to post yesterday, along with working 10-4, I finished my tartan trousers, learnt how to make fishtail plaits, and ate my weight in crispy duck pancakes.

Unfortunately there is no evidence of the crispy duck, because we ravished it very quickly.

Exam Paper

So I got my exam paper today, yay!
If you’re not familiar with A Level Art Exam papers, it’s basically a booklet of about twenty ‘options’ and you get to choose one for you exam, as I’m doing 3 different Design A Levels, I get to choose 3 different ones.
There are five sections:
-Stimuli
-Observational
-Design Brief
-Art In Context
-Visual Starting Points

I tend to choose from the first two, just because they give you a word, and it’s pretty vague so you can take it as closely related as you want. The other four give you an actual task, so you are pretty closed off from what you can actually do.
Initially I’m thinking of doing the word ‘Geometric’ from the Stimuli section for Textiles, and the word ‘Gesture’ from the Observational section for Photography.
I have no idea what I want to do for Graphics.
Once I’ve decided on my words I’ll do some mind-mapping, until I find a direction that I’m happy with continuing with.
I won’t be starting my Textiles and Graphics exam for another few weeks, since I’m still finishing off coursework, but I’ll be starting my Photography tomorrow, which is good because I’ve had an idea for a while now about what I’m wanting to do.

Today...

I wrote up some analysis in Photography,

Melted some fabric with the heat gun,

And did some reverse applique in Textiles,

And I saw a pretty cute pigeon huddled outside a shop.

And now I’m off to Falmouth, for my interview,
!
Bye :)

Exciting Stuff

January and February are lining up to be exciting months!
I’ve got two more interviews lined up, for Falmouth and Bournemouth.
I’m very excited/nervous for these, and I’m looking forward to the long drive down to Falmouth again, I do like long drives.
I also hopefully have a bit more of my final pieces done by this point, so I’ll have some more recent work to show.
I’ve also just booked my first tattoo to be done when I turn 18 in February!
It’s going to be session work, and my first session is going to be a four hour one.
Yikes. No point starting of small haha,
I won’t share the design till I get it done because I want it to be a surprise, but I’m very excited and nervous for that too.
And obviously my 18th is going to be fun :)
One of my best friends has her 18th the week after mine, so we’re doing a joint do thingy.
When I say ‘do’ I really mean ‘pub crawl’.

I found some old fisheyes from this time last year, it’s funny how quickly its passed.
I may sort out a 2011 round up post of pictures.

New Year Goals

This year is going to be crazy.
I’m finding it hard to register that in about 8 months I’ll hopefully be moving out of my little town and going out into the big wide world (almost), and becoming more independent and educated.
It’ll be fun, I hope.
I plan to share all my ventures on here.
It’ll be a good'n

Merry Christmas!

Sorry about lack of posting, I’ve been working all week and have been way to drained to actually do anything at all.
But alas! It is Christmas Day, and I got my wonderful new sewing machine from my Parents!
I can’t wait to give it a spin :)

The Turkey is cooking and I’m looking forward to a full day of relaxing before going back to work tomorrow :)
Have a good Christmas :)

I put my dreads in for a few hours instead of finishing my analysis...

I played around with the felts for my final samples...

I painted some embroidery hoops blue...

and I watched Scrubs and drank hot chocolate whilst catching up on some graphics work...

Have a good wednesday :)

Workspace

After seeing my friend Jade’s post about her desk, (which is beautiful btw) I thought I could do something similar, and post about my workspace.

My rooms so tiny (like 6ft by 6ft) that I can only fit a single bed, one of those material type wardrobe things, and a filing cabinet (idea  for future post: room tour). But it’s pretty quirky and I like it a lot. A little more space wouldn’t hurt though.
So this is where I work:

I have my filing cabinet squeezed in between my bed and my wardrobe. It’s just under my window sill, so I get pretty natural light coming through. Its got all me mail and certificates in the bottom drawer, and the top draw holds books, notepads, camera film, wires and more junk. There’s usually a ton of stuff on top as well, but I tidied it especially, and so my Macbook sits proudly upon it. When I’m not on my Mac I use it to paint on, or set up my sewing machine or something. It’s pretty cramped, but it works.
On my wall I have my timetable, and a few pictures and a stencil I made.
The window sill is home to a dead plant in a birdcage, a few tins with pens, brushes and thingymajigs in them, my speakers and some incense and things like that.
Hanging from the curtain rail I have several more thingymajigs. I’m not quite sure what they are called, but my friend Bengi gets me them, mainly from Turkey.

That’s pretty much it for now, if I ever tidy my room up I’ll probably show the whole thing (all 2 square metres of it).
 Byeee :)

Photography Thursday

I skipped yesterdays post, it was meant to be an outfit post, but as of yet I haven’t taken any successful outfit pictures, and thus, the basis of the post is non-existent. Hopefully by next week I’ll have sorted something out *fingers crossed*.
Todays post is about photography, another A Level I am taking. My chosen theme is Lomography, which you can find out a bit more about, here.

These were taken on a trip the zoo over the holidays. They aren’t proper lomo images, I took them with my dslr, and then used the Instagram app to ‘lomofy’ them. As much as I love lomography cameras, I wanted to make sure I got some decent shots, and here is the outcome,
enjoy!
